Want to Appeal Your OC Property Tax Assessment? You Only Have Until Monday 9/17 ~

September 11, 2012

If you are one of the thousands of Orange County homeowners whose property value has fallen below your new assessed value – you have until Monday 9/17 to appeal this tax.  As of right now, approx 5000 homeowners have filed the forms needed for this appeal, while last year there were 17,543.

If you think your tax is too high, tax appeal instructions and forms can be found online at ocgov.cm/cob.  To file in person, taxpayers need to show up by 5 pm at the Clerk of the Board office on the first floor of the Hall of Administration, at 333 W. Santa Ana Blvd, Rm 101, Santa Ana.  Appeals sent by mail must be postmarked by Sept. 17 and sent to PO Box 22023, Santa Ana 92701.  Not all post offices will issue postmarks after 5 pm.

I can give you the comps for your neighborhood, to include in this packet.  You will need to show proof that your home is not worth the assessed value and I can help you do that.  Contact me if you would like more details on how to do this and let me help you.  There is never a guarantee that your appeal will help lower your property tax, but if it is way out of line, let’s talk about it!
